Characters with Long Ears is a project embedded within the larger series of modular performance, The Carnival of the Animals. The structure of this multi-year collaboration follows the 14-movement structure of Camille Saint-Saëns’s 1886 musical suite for children. The Every house Carnival considers endangered and extinct species, with an original performance devised in response to each of Saint-Saëns’s titles, following those imaginative classifications.

In January 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, we used a converted garage to make the short film Characters with Long Ears. Attuned to sounds outside of the human range of audible frequencies and those characters who hear them, the film features performances by Alex Bradley Cohen, Elise Cowin, Isaac Cresswell, Sky Cubacub, and Bryan Saner, with narration written by Matthew Goulish.
